International Travel - Thai wood pier
Thai pier in Phuket

What a memory to wake up to – I woke up this morning with Phuket on my mind…

Our second international vacation travel destination to Phuket, Thailand was awesome! The Big Guy had been working in the Middle East for a bit now & I felt pretty confident that The Land of Smiles would be just the cherry on top for this trip. The oldest of the girls, Carrie, a former Navy seaman, had told us if we ever got the chance we should put Phuket on our vacation list. Thank you Carrie! Thailand was amazing!

I’ll just warn you now, you will hear Thailand come up in a lot of future blogs. So many fun memories. This one particular one was hilarious but could have been so embarrassing!

Our room is on the left in this building. From this view it is hidden by the trees. Middle floor, metal railings.

This is a partial view of the Best Western Superlai Resort & Spa where we stayed about 30 minutes outside of Phuket town. This is a view looking up to the hotel from end of pier when the tide is going out. To the right of this pier was the beach and bar area opening out to the beautiful water. The hotel pool, dining, other individual rooms are in another building to the left of the building in above photo. Each room had its own semi private deck that you could sit out in the a.m. and have coffee or just enjoy the sun or stars at night.

The Big Guy & I were down at the bar area chatting up with Mr. Yuk, the bartender & hotel entertainment planning our excursion for the day. I posted pics of Mr. Yuk with The Big Guy in photos on our F/B page. The Hotel was very new and preparing for season to begin in a couple weeks. We totally lucked out being there just pre-season [you know, lower rates, low capacity, etc] so we were really had hands on ‘handling’ from day one. AWESOME! In his spare time, we were able to go out to an island on Mr. Yuk’s boat just to swim. I’m reliving it as I type…so much fun. Oh, and the first weekend at the hotel there was a large asian wedding at the pool area…gorgeous.

Back to the story, The Big Guy & I were down at the beach taking in all the beauty when I turned around to check out view to hotel. I could not believe my eyes. Now if someone else had been and about and looked up at the hotel they would have been scratching their heads for sure. I was just speechless when I turned to the culprit standing next to me and pointed to the hotel. Evidently, [and I really don’t know how he did it without me seeing it] he had hand washed our undies and hung them from on the deck to dry! I really think he let me go to breakfast first so he could run back in and wash and hang them. Yep, luckily he had hung them so that they would not fly off in the breeze. He said he was use to washing his own undies and didn’t want to bother the housekeepers [who later let us know they could do our laundry.]

Needless to say, on trips after this, I kept a close eye on him and the laundry!

A Return Trip to Thailand is Most Assuredly in Our Future

After writing this blog, I checked both the Resort & Booking.com for prices. It is very affordable. Prices at 55-67$ per night is good money spent. King bed with sea view & full breakfast included. I saw that they also recommended you select free cancellation which included being able to pay at hotel! The hotel was gorgeous & the staff was awesome. Really happy.

English Language

I read in one of the reviews of the Resort that language was manageable? We had no problem whatsoever. One of the employees explained to us that in Thailand if you want to have a good job you have to speak English so they are very happy to learn.

The locals in the village below the hotel were so patient with us even though very very few of them spoke English. We had picked up some short phrases from hotel staff that really gave us an edge. We were able to shop in the open market & had no issues buying anything. Locals were just very patient with us when we tried to speak Thai! Such a lovely culture

Longtail boat is the way to island hop in Thailand!
